About me
I am a dually trained and licensed therapist and mental health nurse with a professional and personal practice grounded in politicized healing. My work and worldview are shaped by generational roots in feminist-marxist activism, community organizing, lived experience as a refugee from Iran, poverty and working-class struggles, and intergenerational trauma.
In addition to my independent therapy practice, I have been working in mental health and substance use services for Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) since 2008. I am also an educator and formerly Associate Faculty in City University of Seattle’s Master of Counselling program. I have a background in leadership, facilitation and teaching workshops/seminars within VCH and for other health authorities, front-line agencies, and community programs. My practice also includes clinical consultation and supervision with expertise in supporting therapists, healthcare and social support workers working in mental health and substance use, housing, and other service areas.
Alongside these roles, I am also a council member and co-founder of Healing in Colour (www.healingincolour.com).
Approach
My practice includes an integration of Feminist-Narrative Therapy, Somatic Experiencing, and Mindfulness-based Self-compassion, with an emphasis placed on supporting the healing of communities most impacted by structural power and oppression (particularly BIPoC/people of the global majority and LGBTQ2SIA+ communities). My practice is also largely informed by intersectional feminist, abolitionist, anti-oppressive, decolonizing, queer and critical theory frameworks.
I also draw from additional therapeutic modalities, such as (but not limited to):
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT)
Parts Work/Internal Family Systems Therapy
Sensorimotor / Body-mind Psychotherapy
Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)
Our work together will be collaborative while I strive to create a warm, safe, and affirming experience first and foremost. You will be invited to safely explore any issues that may be getting in the way of personal and collective healing and to cultivate your innate (and often ancestral) wisdom of the body and mind.
